Nancy asks…

Yahoo small business web hosting?

I have a friend who owns a company he has yahoo business… I think small business plan with yahoo. he used there template and such to design his last site. I am a professional web designer but i have no experience with yahoo. Can I upload my own website through them? So in short I need to find out if I can take my html files and upload it my self and how to do it.

The Expert answers:

I am no professional webmaster but when uploading my sites to any hosting place I use FTP ( File Transfer Protocol).
I used yahoo but when it came to using certain basic scripts it was’nt possible so I switched to IX and never looked back.
They are half the price and way more efficient.

Linda asks…

Free web hosting that lets you input 100% of your own HTML?

I would like to make my own website, but I’d like to have one in which I can input 100% of my own HTML. I don’t want a template or any presets; I just want to handle HTML myself. I also don’t want to pay for my website. Is there any site that does this? Webs.com (formerly Freewebs) USED to allow this as an option, but it seems that they don’t anymore. Any help is appreciated.

The Expert answers:

You first take a free domain from co.cc or .tk

Setup ur nameserver in domain ( given in your hosting account )

Now u can upload any html in you hosting.

For XML You can use blogger, ITs best

..

David asks…

Any good web hosting / e-commerce sites?

I need to build my web store and need a company who offers me everything. I need to list 200-250 items, I need categories and sub categories, I need my customers to be able to check out and pay using paypal. I need my own email (example, my name @mydomain.com). I need something easy to use and something in a decent price range. I am fairly new to this, have been using homestead, but find they are a little complicated to use. I am not great with html, therefore am looking for something that has a drag and drop, pre made templates, etc… Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. As a thank you, I can even put a link of your site on mine :)

The Expert answers:

I recommend one of these: http://www.tophostingpicks.com

iPage has the best offer right now.

Their plan includes:

Unlimited disk space
Unlimited bandwidth
Unlimited e-mail accounts (like name@mydomain.com)
Free domain name

Price: $66/year
(or even cheaper like $3.50/month depending on the length of the payment)

They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They’re also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998.

They include a free point & click online site builder so you can create a website without any programming (easily, just by drag and drop) or you could install WordPress (they include easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like WordPress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

Mark asks…

Using Yahoo web design templates.?

I created a web site using Intellyweb software. I already am paying Yahoo to host the site. I would like to redesign my web site using Yahoo’s free web design tools. Can I access the Yahoo templates without committing to a separate hosting plan? Can I then transfer my URL name to this new site?

The Expert answers:

Good question Rhonda.

Depending on what tools you are currently using to design your site, the answer to your question would either be yes or no.

If you are currently using Yahoo! SiteBuilder, you can create multiple websites without having active services. Since Yahoo! SiteBuilder is installed onto your computer, it’s not dependent on active service with Yahoo! Small Business.

If you are looking to use Yahoo! Site Solution however, that tool requires active services for the domain you are wanting to use. This is due to the tool itself being a web based tool and needing a Web Hosting Control Panel to access.

If you have any other questions about this or any of your existing services, feel free to contact us at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/contactus/

John asks…

This web hosting stuff has me all confused! Help?

I am pretty much new to this whole web hosting thing. I have decent knowledge of HTML and used CSS for my menu in my website. I have created my website (A Fantasy Football website) out of both. I used the program Notepad++ to do all my coding. Then saved my pages onto my desktop for now. I also used Paint Shop Pro to make my Website Template. That’s just the basic stuff about my site.

Now I thought choosing a web host would not be a big problem but I am more confused then ever. I am not worried about all this Php stuff and all that fancy stuff. I just want to be able to take my pages saved onto my desktop, take the code (html and CSS) and put it into a page. Something simple for me to edit my html and css cause it will always need to be updated.

Also I dont want free hosting. I want something dependable. So anyone who can offer any help on how all this works would be great!!!

The Expert answers:

For six years, I wrote everything on my site in WordPad. It can be done.

You can still edit the stuff the same way you have been. The only thing you have to do at the host, beyond initial setup, is to upload the files, generally via FTP. Changed a page? Upload the new one over the old one.

Susan asks…

Where can I find a manual of how to use Mambo and CPanel to design a website?

An organisation I’m involved with purchased a Mambo web template from a host which has since gone out of business. The manual they gave us does NOT explain nearly enough for us to even make a start.

The current site host is just a buddy with some web space and he doesn’t know how to use Mambo, he can’t help me. Any suggestions where to look?

We’re reluctant to trash the whole thing and start over because we (foolishly) paid a lot of money and we’d like to get something out of it if possible.

Any (sensible) suggestions would be appreciated!

Maria asks…

I’m a virtual real estate marketing assistant-need web hosting advice for realtors?

I currently do web maintenance to a real estate company’s existing site-just updates, uploading photos etc.,. Now a couple of agents asked me about helping them with putting together their own site. I am not sure what web hosting company to tell them to use. There’s so many but I want one that offers mls and doesn’t look like a cheap template. I know they don’t want to spend a lot and want to be able to maintain it themselves if they can. I just want to help them with choosing a company and getting the initial template together.

The Expert answers:

Hi there i would suggest this one, because their very reliable and have a very good alexa ranking of in the top 2000 websites.

They have very good credentials.

Paul asks…

How do I take a template from an existing site?

I was asked to look at a website that changed hosting ownership. The site client ( a church) had someone volunteer the hosting and website control and was having difficulties accessing the site. They wanted the site switched to obtain more control over the content access. I had difficulties contacting the previous owner and had to rip the site from the web. My question is, what do I need to do to recreate the template that was previously in use? It was created using a CMS app and I would like to shift it into Joomla!

FYI the site is in complete ownership of the church and I have full authority to complete the task I was asked to look in to.

The Expert answers:

If the church bought paid hosting, Joomla should be ready to setup. Most hosting sites provide several CMS setups for install via the site’s management panel (cPanel?). Once you have the setup installed. You can use FTP to set up an identical directory and upload the correct files to the right directories. Also, you’ll need to get the database working. Personally, I would just start from scratch and make sure all text/image content is available and make the template from the index page.

You could install XAMPP on your computer and run PHP/database locally and use a good web editor to make the site before uploading.

Chris asks…

I want business domain name and web hosting.Need help in business domain name and web hosting?

How can i choose cheap business domain name and web hosting. If you know any business domain name and web hosting with unlimited bandwidth and storage, Please help me…

The Expert answers:

Whether you are looking for some space to host your new business’s website or you are thinking about moving forward and putting together a solid site for family or recreational activities, you will find that one name that keeps coming up again and again is HostGator. HostGator.com is one of the more popular sites out there when you are looking for hosting, but is it really what you need? How are you going to be able to move forward and how can you make sure that you are getting the service that you are interested in? If you are curious to see how HostGator lives up to what it promises, there is definitely some information that you need to be aware of.

In the first place, you will certainly find that HostGator has a lot of commendations. They were founded in 2002 and they are consistently ranked extremely highly by the review sites. Take a look at some of the plans that are offered. The first level of performance is known as Hatchiling, with 350 GB of space and 3000 GB of bandwidth. This is the only plan that limits you to one domain and it comes in at $6.95 every month. The highest level of service is known as Swamp, and for $14.95 a month, you are going to get 1000 GB of storage, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited domains. While they do offer Linux only hosting, you will find that all of their packages come with the features that you need for a good website.

When looking at the performance, it is worth noting that HostGator hosts the sites on Dual Xeon servers in Dallas. The data centers are connected to 10 backbone providers and they offer 99.9% uptime. According to third party accounts, they provide consistent, high quality uptime regardless of what is going on. They have an impressive reputation for maintaining this no matter what the site is doing and the response has been generally positive.

When people are considering HostGator, one thing that often draws them in is the customer service. Not only do they provide a wide range of support, the customer service is significantly more competent and involved than other types of customer service or tech support. Depending on the issue, an escalation all the way up to the company’s president is possible. The reliability and the responsiveness of this hosting site are fairly impressive.

Take a moment to consider HostGator and how it might work for you. Does this company fulfill your needs and what can you do to make sure that you are getting the results that you are after? Consider what you know about the site and make sure that you look into the site itself and see how you feel!

Sandra asks…

How do you switch website hosts and what host is the cheapest?

I have a domain name. After a year, it costed a jaw-dropping $120! I don’t want to continue paying that much for it, even though it is a helpful. So what’s a cheap, web host where you can make nice layouts easy and easy navigation?

The Expert answers:

I’ve been doing business with Modhost for a few site and it works very well: www.modhost.com. No complaints so far.

At 4.95$/month for just about every service (including multiple email adresses and MySQL), it’s a good choice.

Lizzie asks…

Susan asks…

Web Hosting…?

I’m looking for a good quality web hoster that isn’t totally expensive…so far I’ve found this site as the best…does anyone know of one that is better/cheaper with all the same/more features…. http://www.servage.net/?coupon=cust23366 thanx for your replys…btw php is important and this site has included support for MSSQL DB connections to an external SQL Server (kinda important as well) thx for the help and info

The Expert answers:

I DONT recommend going with a “big” host – the customer service will slack due to the customer base they are serving. 1&1, iPower, Godady, and others look very appealing – but if you want to wait on hold for 1/2 hour to get to talk to someone who doesnt know what they’re doing – go for it.

A smaller web host will dedicate more time to their customers, as they must to keep relations strong.

I am with http://www.DependableHost.net – and have had NO problems or complaints! I have a dedicated account rep who cares about my website, and business. I get a phone call from him every few months wanting to make sure that everthing is operating correctly, and I’m happy with the service. In fact, I also just got a christmas card in the mail from him.

My search for a host is over – I highly recommend them. They have a deal now – you can get your first month totally free. You have nothing to loose – give them a shot at your business.

David asks…

Web hosting?

This web is offering 7500gig traffic and 750gig disc space for 6dollars a month. Why is it so cheap?

The Expert answers:

Bluehost webhosting is the best one, they are offering unlimited hosting space, unlimited file transfer, host unlimited domains, free site builder for $6.95 per month only

What would be the best way to construct and build a web site?

I am wondering both the best hosting site, as well as the features that would be essential for a well organized site? Also if anyone knows of a good web site builder, or if html code will be all i need?

The site i wish to create will need to have instant messaging, live video feed, irc, up loadable video room, possibly drawing, forums, guides, down loadable content.

The site will be used as a study tool, where people can gather in a chat room to discuss and help each other through homework, essays, what ever, and will have video explinations and such.

Nancy asks…

do i have to use the webhost of a company when wanting to use thier site builder?

im really new to this , and id like to use yahoo as my web host, but i hate their site builder. i would actually like to use bluevoda site builder

The Expert answers:

Sitebuilders are part of the overall service that a web host provides. The services run from their site and the majority require that you log into your website that they host and build from there. What you might be able to do is build a site at bluevoda and if there is an ftp download facility, download the files and then upload to yahoo – but there may be features in the site that assume certain software availabe that only bluevoda provides. It’s a crap shoot. My guess would be that you won’t be successful using bluevoda and then exporting to Yahoo.

Helen asks…

Page Builder in Yahoo Web Hosting Problem?

For some reason all my pages in subdirectories of my site http://www.barrettsmallengine.com will no longer open with Page Builder. The pages in my main directory open just fine. Anyone know what is going on at Yahoo Web Hosting?
I think I found the problem. If you view the source code of the file manager in the root directory, and then view the source code of the file manager in a subdirectory, there is a difference in the link for each file. Here it is:
IN ROOT DIRECTORY:
Edit HTML code

IN SUBDIRECTORIES:
Edit HTML code

The difference is the “type=html” this is now added to the file links in the subdirectory File Manager for some unknown reason. It is likely the reason why Page Builder won’t recognize the files.
Looks like I was a little fast off the mark with that additional information about the cause, because one hour later and Yahoo Web Hosting has fixed the problem. The “type=html” has also disappeared from the file links in the subdirectory source code. I am very relieved!
Maybe I wasn’t so fast off the mark. After the problem was fixed last night, and receiving an email from Yahoo saying the problem was resolved, today the problem is back again. However today some pages in only one of my subdirectories still open with Page Builder. All the others have that “type=html” in the file links again. What a mess!
After 4 phone calls that run you through the same drawn out process and leave you with no answers, and countless emails that get an automated responce, I have come to the conclusion that Yahoo Small Business does not care about it’s customers. It’s now been over a week that I have been unable to edit my pages in subdirectories. I have been a loyal customer of Yahoo Web Hosting since 2003, and this kind of treatment is unacceptable. If I am forced to start using a different program to create my website I will no longer pay a company like Yahoo to host it. They need to remove the “Small Business” from the name of their service, because small business needs reliability from it’s suppliers, and Yahoo’s web hosting service is too full of problems and poor service. It’s clear that our choices are to wait for some one at the amateur Yahoo Small Business service to get around to fixing this problem, or move our sites to a professional hosting provider. I know my patience is running out!
I probably should not be surprised by what a mess Yahoo Small Business is. Just take a look at the search engine. I could never understand why Yahoo doesn’t understand why Google is more successful. It’s not because a Google search returns better results than Yahoo. It’s because Yahoo.com looks more like CNN.com than a search engine. When I want to search for something I like the simple straight forward approach that Google offers. If I want to read the news I will go to CNN. Yahoo should have picked one long ago, either a search engine or a news provider but not both. As for returning poor search results, that would MSN’s problem (or Bing or what ever they are calling it now). If Yahoo dumped all news, annoying links and other clutter I would chose it over Google any day, and I bet I’m not the only one.

The Expert answers:

I had the exact same problem. I ended up switching to a different hosting company after I got no response from yahoo to resolve my issues, and they made a simple task so difficult when I tried to change DNS settings for my domain from yahoo to the new host I conveniently got an “error” and “try again later” message.

I know you’re feeling let down by yahoo after being with them for so long, but to be honest, make it your business decision to move on to something better.

Here’s the hosting company I found:

www.tastyhost.com

Their rates are very low, their tech support is excellent, and above all, I like that security is their main concern. At least for me, I know trusting a company with my site means a lot. I need to know the time I’ve invested to my site will not be taken lightly, as it did with yahoo (it’s strictly business…I still like yahoo)

Susan asks…

Web Hosting and Domains?

Hi,

Right, this is what I have at the moment:

Domain Name – around 12£ per year
Setup fee 13£ One off
Free 100mb of Web Space
Free 100mb Bandwidth
Free Email service
Free Web Builder

This is a good package and I already host a couple of sites with these guys but I am looking for a different host for my new web site.

Can anyone recommend something similar that also has paid for hosting if things start picking up again!

Thank you

The Expert answers:

I recommend one of these: http://www.webhostingdiscounts.org

FatCow or iPage have the best features for the price.

Their hosting plan includes:
- Free domain name (.com, .net, .org, .co.uk)
- Unlimited storage and bandwidth
- Unlimited email addresses per domain name

They include a free point & click online site builder so you can create a website without any programming (easily, just by drag and drop) or you could install WordPress (they include easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like WordPress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

Sandy asks…

How can i create a custom website using Yahoo Web Hosting?

I recently bought a domain via Yahoo web hosting service, i really don’t like there site building program, I am a noob to this but how can I create an html site without using the yahoo site builder?

Dreamweaver I assume.

And when i do make the site, how do I upload it to my site(domain)?

sorry if i sound like a nub ;x

The Expert answers:

You can also use the wordpress software, it is more known as a blogging software, but you can change settings and such to make it look like a website. If you use any other software other than their web builder (yahoo’s that is), you would have to upload your files that the software produces for you via FTP. You can use a free FTP client like filezilla.

Daniel asks…

Where can I find an entrepreneur who already owns a web site hosting company to partner with my venture?

I have 600 plus websites that run on a custom affiliate marketing website builder and they are currently being hosted for $60 a month on ONE IP address. I was told they need spread out over at least 10 separate IPS for better SEO and want to PARTNER rather than PAY a hosting company. I am willing to give up stock in my company if we can find the right people who also might be well connected with developers and programmers. The business model combines individual .com domain names AND a social network cobined to build a BRAND.

The Expert answers:

Godaddy has a fine affiliate program. You can find additional reseller / affiliate programs or potential business partners at http://www.webhostingtalk.com

That said, why not start renting dedicated servers and prevent entertaining a middleman? There are many dedicated server vendors out there, including plenty who will manage your servers, too. Http://www.rackspace.com comes to mind, as does http://www.dreamhost.com

For only $10 a month you can get a domain name, web hosting, 10 email addresses, and site builder tools so you can build your site yourself!
AND you get a free 7 day trial, plus they have an affiliate program that you can participate in (or not) at no extra charge!
They’re very comparable in price to godaddy.com, where you have to buy the domain name and then pay extra for things like email, hosting, and site builders.

Daniel asks…

Free web hosting for a school project?

I need to make a website for a school project, what’s a good free web host that I can use? Pros and cons would be nice.

The Expert answers:

I recommend VlexoFree.

Pros: It’s free. Completely free! There is a $5/month plan, but that leads me to my next point; There are tons, and I mean tons, of features for free (see here: http://vlexofree.com/wiki/Features ). Compared to others, they can’t hold a candle to the amount of features. It’s also extremely reliable and trustworthy. It’s Linux. You also get lots of space.

Cons: If you don’t log into the account for 20-30 days, your site may get suspended and eventually deleted. That happens with a lot of hosts, though, but still. You have to answer some interview questions and be approved. It’s very easy, though, but is a pain if you have to get something up quickly.

Hostgator is about the best you can get with shared hosting
Yeah…. For less than $10 per month, you can host as many domain name as you want.
I use hostgator myself, because I like how much they give you to start with so you can grow before you need to upgrade, but there’s plenty of room to upgrade as well. Good support, live chat if you want to ask them anything – even before you buy. My account was activated within 10 minutes and they replied to support tickets promptly.
Hostgator offers different size plans so you can start small and upgrade as needed.

Basic, reliable, cheap web hosting?

Ive looked around at a lot of web hosting businesses and even use some of them. They’re good and all, but I have no use for 99% of the tools and services that Im probably paying extra for. I do everything either by hand in raw code, or through Dreamweaver. All I do is buy my domain and never do a thing with there site again, except pay them….

Is there hosting out there that’s reliable, offers my own domain name registration in the www.mydomain.com format, no bells and whistles, and more affordable. Can anyone help me?

The Expert answers:

I still go with HostGator. They may not be teh cheapest, but reliablity and 24 hour support is a must for me.

You can give them a shot for the first month for .01 cent and if you don’t like them cancel.

Here is a coupon for the one cent I found on the online.

Coupon code: savememoney

Powweb currently has the best offer.

but they have the 50% sale right now.

Disk space: Unlimited
Bandwidth: Unlimited
A Free domain name
Unlimited domains and subdomains

Chris asks…

Web Developer with Database skills needed?

I am developing a website, and need the folllowing features:

Visitors sign up with their email address and create their own alias and password.
Log into the site with those credentials
Users can change passwords whenever they want to
Submit information to a database (i.e. post your review of establishments like a restaurant)
Search that same data base for others’ reviews
Display the database search results.

I can be much more specific, but in general, that is what I need.

I am not looking for someone to design my site or create the pages. I can handle tha work myself. But, I really don’t have any talent with web database coding. I just need someone to do the coding specific to what I mentioned above, and advise me on what I need from the back end Hosting (i.e. MySql, etc..)

I do not gurantee anyone the work. But I need this done asap. So if you are interested, or can recommend anyone, just reply to this question with your contact info or send me a message.

The Expert answers:

Honestly, going by what you want this is pretty simplistic to do. You could certainly expand on it to include a lot more though. For example, are you going to allow users to edit their reviews of items? Will other users have admin privileges to modify reviews accordingly? Will the site feature admin capabilities for you (add new restaurants, etc)?

To be completely honest, what you laid out could be knocked out in a productive weekend by a developer if you just want something that works.

Going with the above poster about saving money, I would suggest emailing, calling your local university and finding out who is the head of the computer science program. Discuss with them that you are in need of some development work. This is the sort of thing that many students do for senior projects for their BS. This way, you would help out a student who needs a project, save yourself money, and be a reference for that student (or team of students) in the future.

Also if a company wants there applications reviewed so more people can see it they can send me money which i will do so ,

Does this sound good ?

btw ill be using yahoo site builder and yahoo web hosting

The Expert answers:

Sounds like a good idea, but how will people know about your site? I would love to be able to check out reviews for an app before i get it though.

Betty asks…

Setting up a website?

Hi,
I want to set up a review website. There will be about 300 different things to review on the site so does that mean that I will need a website with 300 pages? Can someone also advise me about web hosting as I don’t know very much about it.

All help is very much appreciated.

The Expert answers:

Hi,

You will need to create a website with database. There are different technologies
to realize that: php, asp, coldfusion and etc. By use that way (site & database)
you will be able easy manage your site via a special control panel (admin panel).
And, of course, such site will consit of several pages only (for example: 15-20),
not 300. The main volume of info will be stored in the site’s database. Most of
hostings support so sites very well now. And, if you wish, you may consider
the ‘GoDaddy’ web hosting.

Violence and profanity being eliminated from novels? Is there a trend toward cleaning up novels? Here’s an article on mormontimes.com.

By Aaron Shill
Mormon Times
Published: Monday, Sep. 15, 2008
It’s no longer part of her job, but Cathy Carmode Lim still claims a good excuse for reading.

Lim has been critiquing books professionally for more than a decade, and although she recently left her position as a book-page editor for an Alabama newspaper, she continues to devote energy to reading and reviewing.

“I just can’t help myself,” Lim said.

But it’s not for entertainment purposes only. Lim has an objective in mind each time she updates her personal Web site — keeping other reading enthusiasts apprised of what they’ll encounter when they pick up a recently published book.

“It’s such a grab bag,” she said. “There’s just so much out there.”

Lim has become accustomed to recommending books. She began writing reviews after the birth of her first child, and for two years she worked as the editor of the Anniston Star’s Sunday book page. Friends and associates constantly asked for her opinions on what she was reading,

features continue below advertisement
“I have this wonderful opportunity,” she said. “I might as well put it out there so more people can get that.”

In January, Lim launched ratedreads.com, which she says is dedicated “to the readers who don’t like excessive vulgar language, violence or explicit sex in their otherwise good books.”

She designed a rating system that evaluates the amount of potentially offensive content in books, which are categorized as either “none,” “mild,” “moderate” or “off my charts.” Lim provides a synopsis and review for each book, in addition to a few sentences that specify why the book received the rating it did.

“They’ll know exactly what they’re getting into,” she said.

Lim, who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said many books contain one or two instances of offensive material, similar to a PG-13 movie. But unlike films, there’s no rating system in place for readers to consult.

“It’s impossible to know if that’s the case with a book,” she said.

Lim’s recent reviews include Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host,” which received a “mild” rating, and Poppy Adams’ “The Sister,” which was categorized as “moderate.” Just this year, Lim listed six books as “off my charts,” meaning that she can’t recommend the book as “clean.”

The former Brigham Young University student and returned LDS missionary focuses her efforts on recently published books, where there is the greatest dearth of information, she said.

Lim tries to select works that she suspects will meet her standards, and she’s learned a few lessons along the way. For instance, she avoids any stories labeled as “coming of age,” and just because a book is categorized as “young adult,” it’s not automatically a safe read.

Lim does most of the work herself, but is hoping to enlist more help from book enthusiasts who want to contribute reviews. Ratedreads.com also links to other sites that provide “clean” book reviews, and Lim is hoping to implement more interactive features in the future.

While she thinks book editors in New York have an entirely different perspective, Lim is confident that most people are looking for relatively clean material to read. While in Alabama, she participated in a book club where she was the only Mormon, but found common ground when it came to standards.

“They didn’t want to pick up something that was really offensive,” she said. “I don’t want to pick up a book and just be pummeled with bad language and detailed sexual scenes. A lot of Americans feel the same way.”

The Expert answers:

I honestly never thought of a rating system for books. It’s not a bad idea though. I am always struggling with which books to recommend to my 13 year old sister. She’s wholesome and I would like for her to stay that way. Although at the same time, I think it can be healthy for youngsters to get a good dose of what is really out there from what they read. Hmmm….I guess I would call this one a toss up.

Would like to start a profitable sports review website/forum. What are some good websites/places to start with?

I have a business idea and I need you guys’ help to get started (I like to post questions here when I get started learning about something — it’s like a kick in the right direction). I am planning on creating a website/forum dedicated to user reviews (I can’t give away more than that or you might steal my idea LOL).
I am looking for the BEST, most respected and professional (looking) places to buy domain names, web hosting etc…
Also, I would like to know any information you can give me on advertising/posting my website via google, yahoo etc…
Also (sorry) I wanted to know about the difference in buying larger websites. This is because I plan on having thousands of reviews on different products and I know this place would need to be large and have a lot of pages (not including having a forum).
Speaking of forums, I would like to have a forum on my site as well. Any extra info on getting a forum would be great. As far as I know, I believe that V-bulletin is a great place to get a forum from? If you know of anymore, I am open to ideas.

And by the way, price is not an option, to be the best, you have to work with the best.

Thank you guys!

The Expert answers:

Well , there is hostgator , google host yahoo and godaddy.
But the most recommended and best web host so far is www.NetworkJuiceHosting.com ; Network Juice.

They now offer plans starting around $0.99/mo for a great amount of diskspace plus everything else unlimited. Plus they’ve manage to keep up 99% Uptime.

They have all features such as PHP5, java ,Cpanel , Fantastico ( allows you to auto install Blogging systems and CMS portals without wasting time) , Cron Job , Apache ,Unlimited Dadabase , ftp accounts and much more. Basically EVERYTHING! Is supported.

There are other affordable plans as well in NetworkJuiceHosting.com.

Hostgator.com is also a great host , but there Uptime time is not so good. Also , customer service is very poor , Not to many features are supported.

Google.com not so sure , But i know there’s lots of files they do not support , no Cpanel , and i don’t know how come , but they have been receiving downtimes lately in their host servers.

Yahoo , let me just say it’s the worst web host ever ,you can’t even host the amount of domains you want to host . Including FatCow.com. The downtime is way to much , and many files are un-compatible in fatcow for some reason.

To buy a domain , the most recommended site is godaddy , but not for it’s hosting!! I Tell you !!!.

For a Great Affordable web host with maximum features , the most recommended web host is www.NetworkJuiceHosting.com . ; Network Juice Hosting.

You are getting your answers from an expert , and yes I have tried all these web host.

Now speaking of VBulliten , it’s a powerful Forum Portal , I totally recommend this for forum hosting. Many developers almost every day or week create multiple templates or Modifications for this forum portal system. It makes your life almost Unlimited to any Specification

That’s all I got to say mate ;)

Good Webhosting for beginner blogger?

I’ve been using blogspot.com for about five or six months. I’ve been tracking my progress, and I’d say I have the confidence to take my blogging to a new level. I recently registered a new domain name with godaddy.com and have been looking for a webhosting site. I’ve been reading a lot of different comments and reviews out on the web about different web hosts and it has been overbearing. I want to find a good host where I can casually post, design and have fun with my little project, and hopefully one day, it’ll turn into something serious. I don’t want pay a large start up fee or commit to a 1 year plan and find out that the host is not what I expected. I was wondering if people could give me some pointers and/or references for a begginner blogger.

The Expert answers:

I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/

Powweb is on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.

Godaddy doesn’t offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you’re buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment. They do offer a monthly payment plan on their Deluxe plan – $6.99/month ($83.88/year) but Powweb is a lot better offer although you have to pay for a year.

Ruth asks…

what is the best inexpensive web hosting company?

I currently have an account with bluehost, but I need a separate account that’s not connected to my existing one. I don’t have any real concerns with bluehost, but I suppose that the speed could be better.

Real reviews on hosts seem like they’re hard to find; most appear to be shills that promote one company over the others rather than being reviews by actual customers. For example, when I went looking for iPage reviews all the sites were names something like ipagereviews.com. Seems fishy.

So any suggestions? I need unlimited domains since I have a couple of dozen (they’re mostly vanity email addresses for friends). I’d like unlimited space and traffic too. Something under $100 a year.

Bonus if they have great site building tools and/or the option of my own IP address without paying through the nose.

Thanks!

The Expert answers:

I suggest you to see this hosting top

http://thebesthostingweb.com

The top was realized taking in consideration the following aspects: guaranteed and tested stability of the servers, accessible prices, no intermediary companies, number of hosted domains, very positive feedbacks.

Steven asks…

Is this a good business idea?

Hi. I’m 15 and I want to start my own online company. I want to make real money ($100-$300 a day), not kid money. I don’t want to start an affiliate marketing business, but I want to start an online service company of some sort. Reseller hosting is a very saturated industry so here are my other ideas.

1. A digital music distribution/marketing company. There is a site called Tunecore which lets people sell their songs on iTunes. But for my company, we would find new bands/artists and provide that service for them. We would also provide a wide variety of marketing services. We could build band websites and market them on Facebook and other social networking sites. I could probably charge $100 for the site, and $70-$150 per album placed on iTunes (they would keep 100% royalties, they only pay the one time fee).

2. I found a free web script that lets you create a website where bands/artists can create profiles, share their music, and listeners can rate, share, chat, follow, etc. It is sort of like purevolume.com, but aiming at a smaller niche of new bands and artists. We would make money from ads and affiliate products :) .

3. I’ve been looking, and they dont have websites that review bands. It might take a long time to write reviews though.

4. A website where people can buy and sell websites/domains. Like flippa.com, but I’m positive the industry is not really saturated, and I could make some money. I would charge a fee if the transaction is successful.

5. Lots of phone review sites go a lot into depth about phones, that it sometimes can be confusing. I have gotten a lot of feedback from elders saying that people in the phone stores are useless. I was thinking of making a site that reviews cell phones, but just gets to the point (who the phone is for, best features, pros, cons, final recommendation).

What other things could I do to make a lot of money ($100-$300 a day) online? Are any of my ideas good? Please don’t say I should’t post ideas on YahooAnswers, because i just want some feedback. I really want to know how to make a lot of money online.

Your Questions About Web Hosting

Donna asks…

How can 000webhost afford to offer free web hosting services? Are they any good?

http://www.000webhost.com/

How can they afford to offer free web hosting services?

Would you recommend using their service for a small informational website?

Thanks for the answers!
Yeah, they have ads on their site, but it says that they do not put any ads on your site.
From their website:

“No ads of any kind
Our promise to you – no catches, no setup fees, no forced advertising, no banners, no popups, no posting required and no hidden charges. Only totally free hosting service. We will never ask you to pay anything, you get everything for $0.00 – that is why we are called 000 webhost.”

The Expert answers:

They do indeed NOT put any advertisements on the sites of their users… AND you get stuff you’d be hard-pressed to find on other free hosting services. 5 FTP accounts, 5 email accounts, 5 MySQL databases, full cPanel, etc.

The only revenue source that I can see is the ads on their main site. Perhaps they also offer paid hosting and other tech support services at additional cost.

I have noticed a few times when the server I’m on was down for a few minutes, ONCE during the past month. Not a bad track record for something I didn’t pay for.

Here’s a link to a test site I put up… This one has WordPress installed, so it’s database-driven, and I’ve put in a plug in to play audio files via Flash… So I’m pushing the “free hosting” envelope…

And yes, the above link has an ad, but it’s one that I put on there myself, it wasn’t automatically added for me.

Thomas asks…

web hosting?

Does anyone know a free web hosting service that has banner or text ads on the bottom? Bottom meaning one has to scroll down to see the ad. It has to be free. Preferably it has 50+MB of stoarge space but I’ll settle for less.

The Expert answers:

Use 1&1. For $6/year(!) you get a 5 page website,
1G mailbox and your own domain.

Betty asks…

Where can i find good and reliable web hosting?

I had used 6 different web hosting services for the past few years. There had been many times when my sites experienced downtime and it took 2 to 3 days for technical support to step in. Each time, the reason given for the downtime was either was due to technical errors or corrupted servers. I really, really a need better and reliable web hosting service.

The Expert answers:

I am happily enjoying BlueHost services since last 4 years and am very much satisfied. I transferred after test and try of several hosting companies but this one is The Best.

Laura asks…

Has anyone ever heard about HostDepartment.com Web Hosting services? Are they good?

I am really thinking about publishing a very big website full of videos, photos, images and texts. So far, I believe it weights 50GB. Obviously, I need a good web hosting service to host the webpage.

I found this website on the Internet and it looks pretty amazing! —> www.HostDepartment.com

Why? Because it has everything I need. Great price (70$-100$), UNLIMITED Disk Storage (fantastic!), UNLIMITED Bandwitdh ( this is huge!), etc and unlimited e-mail addresses!!!

Has anyone heard about this? Should I buy this service? This is the first time I start with a web hosting service, so please give me any advice.

Thanks!!!

Sharon asks…

web hosting?

I need a good , reliable web hosting service that I can use personally and professionally . Any ideas?

The Expert answers:

I have been with Bluehost webhosting for years now and have loved my experience with bluehost. My last webhosting company had practically non-existent support and multiple down times . With Bluehost, my uptime has been superb, so far no down time.

For even faster technical support, they have a Live Chat option on the front page of their website. Apart from that they also have a forum where Bluehost members can get together and they can discuss various aspects of website development.

I have a website, and i use free website “template” for it… but i dont want the company name in template to ruin the page and my efforts, which i input for desired results..

Reseller web hosting company?

Hi. I would like to start a web hosting company by joining a reseller program. I have two programs in mind, but I don’t know which one is better.

1. Www.resellerspanel.com: this program is free and you can sell all different kinds of plans which includes unlimited domain hosting, tons of disk space, free domain, auto responder, website builder, control panel, marketing tools, and much more. However, the hosting you sell does not come with cpanel. The company takes care of customer support, and servers and matinence. They take a wholesale cost which covers there work, and however much you mArkup is what you keep. So if the business plan has a wholesale of $40 per year, if u mark it up to $100 a year, you keep 60$ a year from that client. The program also gives me a pre made site with different templates to promote the hosting. I also get a control panel to see everything. They have great marketing tools.

2. Www.hostgator.com: this is probably a more popular reseller program. You do sell hosting with c panel, but it costs 25-100 dollars each month, and doesn’t have as much space as resellerspanel. However, they don’t take a wholesale from you like reseller panel does. They don’t supply 24/7/365 support for your clients like resellerspanel does.

So, I am leaning towards resellerspanel since it costs less, but do you think no cpanel will make a huge difference? Which program should i use?

The Expert answers:

Let AZ-Resellers put you in the red-hot domain name registration and Internet business. We’ve done the heavy lifting — product development, customer support, infrastructure — we’ve even built your Web site.
Example: http://www.az-network.com

So take your business live on the Internet and start earning money TODAY!

I would go with hostgator myself. While they may not supply the support directly to your customers, they are more than willing to help you out in supporting them (and you will learn a lot in the process)

Online Website Design Templates Without Hosting?

I’ve already purchased my domain and already have web hosting.

I need to design a website though, and I would like to do this online and then upload it to my web hoster (or download the template and then upload.)

The problem is: every site I see online to ‘create your own website’ is part of some package to host the site there as well (wix.com for instance).

I just want to design a site and upload it.

I am only familiar with FrontPage.

I would love to find a site where I can pay to design it online and simply upload it to my web hosting company.

Or at least find a nice Front Page Template I can download and play with.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The Expert answers:

First of all Create your website using Front Page of any other media you like. Change the name of your home page to index.html or index.htm. I think there may a file manager for all web hosting companies. I am using hostgator for all my hosting need. To look the file manager inside host gator see picture below

Hostgator File Manager

Upload all your inside your hard disk there. That is All !!

I recommend you to try hostgator, it is very simple and customer service is very good.

Lizzie asks…

What is the best, affordable, and most user-friendly web hosting service?

If you can elaborate as to why, your advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m interested in creating a professional looking site, with limited finances. Specifically, what are the best all-around options? GoDaddy? Using templates is acceptable, although can a person customize a site to look as cutting-edge as possible to not look so “cookie cutter?” Thanks!
Hosting service(s) that also have do-it-yourself website builders is of great interest.

The Expert answers:

Fatcow is a good web host.

Lisa asks…

How to start a blog? Websites that offer free web hosting?

i want to start a makeup blog site.
I need a blog website that is free and has many templates/customizations that I can make. :]
any advice?

The Expert answers:

Try blogger.com

Susan asks…

Making a new web site?

Can anyone recommend a provider of web hosting with an easy to use design system, no ugly templates and suitable for graphics and text? Thank you.
It doesn’t have to be free.

The Expert answers:

Check out the free to use site: http://www.synthasite.com/

The question really depends entirely on your intent in building a site. The site url shown here will allow you to do some interesting things to test out ideas. It has good tutorial support and an easy to use interface.

Jenny asks…

Need another site just like GeoCities?

Geocities is shutting down and I need a new web hosting site that can allow me to upload images and create text documents with html that uses those hosted images,
i’m not really too educated with html so i don’t know the exact terms but hopefully you know what i’m saying.

I don’t want templates or easy builders! i want image hosting and HTML…:)

The Expert answers:

There are not free good services. I moved on http://www.visionhost.info that’s not free but’s cheap and reliable.

William asks…

Web Hosting and Site Builders?

I am looking to create a website, however I have no experience and am going to use a website builder. Some of them have great templates that make the site look very professional and others don’t. My question was that if I purchase a web hosting plan, can I use whatever Website builder/template I want to, rather than just the ones they offer?

The Expert answers:

For the most part you can. I personally would recommend when it comes to web hosting that you use word press when building your site. By doing so it will be much easier to customize and make changes. You can get a coupon code for hostgator at the link below and your first month will be only a penny.

Hope this helps.

Sharon asks…

which is the best & cheap web hosting company?

yahoo – hostgator – 1 and 1 etc….

The Expert answers:

If you are having problem choosing the best and cheap web hosting to use, I suggest you do the following:

1. Go to the webhost review sites such as webhostingjury,hostingsthatsuck.com or webhostinggeeks and list down about 3-5 common top hosting companies.

2. Next, for each web hosting X, do a “X sucks” search on Google. Read some complaints and see if you may encounter the same problems like them. Some of the complaints may relate to certain groups of users only such as VPS, dedicated server users or resellers. So you may not be affected if you are not from these categories.

3. Eliminate those hostings you feel uncomfortable with, and look for the best bargain hosting for your money.

Hostgator, Justhost and Webfaction is a good start.

I urgently need a Bangladehi web host offering at least 100gb space for at most 5000tk per year. If there are any foreign web host who will accept taka as payment with the option of being able to pay by check or bank transfer, it would help me.

There are so many Bangladeshi web hosting companies competing against each others to get some work out of the limited market since the economy is not progressing as desired. You may talk to them or send e-mail to find your suitability.

I have sub-domain as well as our main domain; both are hosted by the GCL. However, I’m not very happy about the way they have been responding to our request to help us with updating our sites. Gone are the days when there were very talented and enthusiast young people working in GCL and such leading organization who have left their jobs for better prospect abroad and now you have not-so-good after sale services available from not-so-professional personnel in most of the above addresses. So, please be very selective and get as much info about them as possible before giving them money!

Hope above would be help to you.
