Cheapest dedicated Linux server hosting in Chicago?

What is the cheapest dedicated Linux server hosting package available in Chicago? I’m looking for something similar to fastservers.net, but cheaper.
The data center and servers MUST be physically located in Chicago for my purposes.

Why would I need MSSQL or ASP for my website?

I intend to build my small professional website using the webhost’s site builder. There is a choice of identically priced Windows or Linux hosting packages. The only difference I can see is that Windows has MSSQL and ASP. But what exactly would I use these for? I’d ask the webhost but I know I won’t understand their reply!

MSSQL is the windows server equiv of Linux MYSQL, PHP is a much more powerful server side scripting language and is best with linux server.

The advantage of a windows server is the ability to use msaccess which is a private database rather than a shared SQL server database.

Now, in the next few days I will be purchasing a new domain name from GoDaddy (as well as their Economy Hosting Plan). I am going to be hosting my blog on a sub-domain (my own piece of the website). I am just curious if one hosting package is better than the other:

Linux is better of course. WordPress is a PHP/MySQL open source app. Linux is it’s native environment.

If you’ve decided to get hosting from Godaddy, don’t buy your domain upfront. Buy it with hosting so that you can get it for $1.99 instead of like $10. You can get 20% discount on any Godaddy plan. More info at: http://www.hosttell.com

P.S. The Economy plan you mentioned offers hosting of just one domain, so it means that you can host just one site on it. If you want to have more websites you have to get a new hosting plan. If you choose the Deluxe hosting, you can host unlimited websites on the same plan (at no additional cost, just the cost of additional domain name). But if you’re sure you won’t need to host another site, the Economy plan is fine. If you still haven’t decided on hosting I recommend Powweb. (They also offer hosting of unlimited domains) They include easy, one click install of WordPress from their control panel, so you don’t have to do it manually.

Hey guys i am looking to make a personal website, question is when buying a hosting package do i choose linux or windows? i have xp and soon will have win7… but does windows server come free on my pc? or not.
I am good with css/html ok with photoshop just need to figure out this tiny but big problem
@harry bit confused with setting things up… i mean does nothing come free with my computer? i am setting up just a personal website… and how would i go about it?

Linux is free and open source, and it’s a great hosting platform.

If you need to go with asp.NET then windows (ain’t free), but you’re making a personal web, so linux is great for your needs.
