Lizzie asks…

does any one know a good cheap web host?

I need a hosting service that is under $10/month with at least 100 gigs of storage and 1000 gigs of transfer a month. i don’t massively care about up time but it needs to be at least 90%. I would also prefer that it not have a yearly contract but be a month to month thing.

The Expert answers:

I recommend you use HostGator. You can pay monthly, quarterly or yearly. Here are some Host Gator coupon codes to save you some money http://www.castironhostingreview.com/hostgator-review.html

Help! Opening an online store and I need advice. What is the best cheap ecommerce web host?

I am opening an online boutique/store. What is the best low cost ecommerce web host? I want to pay monthly (not yearly).I would also like any tips or advice on opening the store. I am new to all of this. I have my products and I found an easy flash website builder to build the site with. I just really need a good web host, so I can get started soon. Thanks!

The Expert answers:

MyHostSource.com offers monthly payments. A plan that may fit you is the $9.95/month plan. This also comes with an ecommerce option for free that helps you set up your store using ecommerce website templates. You would select this option from the control panel once your account is active, and it will walk you through setting up a store front. Support will also help you if need be.

Next, you’ll want a paypal account to take payments. This is the cheapest method of accepting payments and doesn’t require you to have an SSL license which adds to the cost of a website if you take credit card info directly. You can however opt to use a merchant gateway but once again additional costs are incurred.

Mark asks…

Cheap Web Host That is awesome?

I am looking for a cheap paid webhost that offers,
Cpanels for subdomains
Unlimited everything
Lets users use PHP as well as HTML and CSS.
Allows more than one domain.
Yearly or more than one year plans, six month plans etc.

Do not say
HOSTMONSTER
OR YAHOO

The Expert answers:

Hostgator will happily meet all those requirements. I’ve been uisng their baby croc plan for about 6 months now – with PHP sites, html ones and a WordPress one (PHP/MySQL). That particular plan gives you unlimited everything (domains, space, bandwidth) and you get the cPanel access.

I don’t think it’s expensive, if you buy it in bulk (buy it for the 3 years if you know you’re going to be doing sites) then it’s pretty cheap. You can also use the coupon code 1CentReview (found here: http://hostgator-review.info ) which gives the first month for $0.01 (so give it a try at least :-) ).

I’ve had to use their support a few times (very technical questions) and they were great! The online chat is very useful.

Good luck with it, give Hostgator a shot in my opinion!

Robert asks…

need help for web hosting service!?

i needed a cheap high-bandwidth web host.. after much searching i found this: http://www.manashosting.com/windows.html
now my prob is that i’m a bit suspicious seeing “Unlimited Disk Space; Unlimited Bandwidth” = Rs.1500/yearly = 35$ annualy(approx) for 1 domain. Its too cheap! And what i cant understand is this: “Database Space 1200MB” what is this??
Is there any catch in this hosting service?? or is it clean. plz advice!

The Expert answers:

There is no such thing as “unlimited” anything in webhosting. They might claim to give you unlimited space or bandwidth, but when you start using up too much, they will kick you off their servers. They will probably have some “fair use” policy or something in their Terms Of Service (read the smallprint). What they are doing is called “overselling”, and it’s not a good practice to keep your servers stable.

Have a look at http://www.Radixhosting.com/ I’ve been using them for over a year, and what you see is what you get. No unlimited space or bandwidth bullsh*t. And they’re quite affordable too!

Ken asks…

Cheap VPS Hosting — less than $10 a month?

I need VPS hosting for a small c++ app I made. I NEED at least 5Gb of storage for all of my files and apt-get programs, but if it isn’t the Ubuntu OS, I will need at least 7GB — If possible, i’d like more..
At least 256MB RAM is needed, and a nice burst is always nice.

It requires root access to install certain software so plain web-hosting isn’t good enough (I have tried dreamhost already and got library errors when running it)

Does anyone know any VERY cheap ones??

I have been looking at SWVPS’s LVPS-1 package;
10GB disk space,
OpenVZ & HyperVM,
250GB bandwidth/traffic per month,
Instant self-reboots,
400Mb RAM (600Mb burstable),
2 free IPs,
Plesk 8 (1 domain) or WebMin control panel

Yearly price ($99.99) — As I say, it’s one small program I need, and I don’t want to pay for what I won’t use often.. I host it myself now but that needs to change

If you know any discount codes (not sure if yahoo let you post em, haven’t checked the T&Cs for a while), or any other CHEAP VPS hosting company, please let me know.

I look forward to your replies,
Ian
As I say, http://swvps.com is good for value, I just wanted to see if anyoneciuld beat it

A coupon code would be nice but no site on the Internet is willing to give them away
to be honest, I may be getting greedy with this: 23p a day with swvps for uk hosting is amazing… I’ll just go with them

The Expert answers:

When it comes to VPS, you get what you pay for. For the price you are looking for you will be lucky to get more than 64MB RAM. I’ve looked into VPS and VDS hosting and so far not seen anything I’m willing to pay for.

Charles asks…

What’s the best web hosting company?

Hi,
I’ve just developed my first web site and would like to know what’s the best way to host it. I’m in Brazil and the site is aimed at Brazilian web users although the domain name is just dot com. Do I have to host it with a Brazilian company or can it be anywhere in the world.
Basically I’m looking for a good price matched with good quality. Any suggestions?
Also, while I’m here – I bought the domain name six months ago for U$30 yearly. Is there a way I can register it with another company for cheaper?
Thanks

The Expert answers:

I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

They’re the best:

1. You get a free domain from them (actually 2 if you use the promo code, more about that later), or you can use one of these free domains to transfer your existing one to Dreamhost, and extend its’ registration for one more year, all for free of course.

*****************************
How do you do this? Just pick this 3rd option at signup page:
“I already own a domain, but I want to host it with you and transfer the registration for free!”
Follow the instructions and transfer your domain to Dreamhost. This is free, even the renewals are free for as long as you are Dreamhost customer. Plus if you use the promo code PLUS you get additional domain for free!
*****************************

2. They have 500 GB of Disk Space and increasing
3. 5TB (5000 GB) of Bandwidth and increasing
4. You can use their huge Disk Space and host multiple sites on a single account.
5. Their price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly)
6. Which is a pretty standard price but they currently have a promotion:
Use the Promo Code: PLUS (at sign up page) and get a $50 discount + 2 Free Domain Names
7. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month)

The Expert answers:

Hey Ashley,

I work on behalf of 123-reg, the £9.99 is a one off charge for the hosting setup.

Steven asks…

Server for FTP, Mail, and Web-hosting?

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for a server that will handle around 2TB of FTP storage for 80-100 people (already have hard-drives), can handle email for 80-100 people, handle 10 listserves, host a website (nothing to extreme just wordpress and less than 1000 hits a month). I’m looking for a server that is cheap in the long run (3-5 years). I have no issue making something myself. Also, I do not need to buy any Operation System, CD/DVD Drive, Mouse, Keyboard….etc.

Budget is around 600. And form factor is not an issue, just yearly power costs.

The Expert answers:

Probably GoDaddy. They normally the cheapest. Just remember to include a discount code. You can get about 25% off all purchases

The Expert answers:

I have never seen a web hosting company cheaper than 1 dollar per month. I think you should be careful though, notice how one thing that isn’t on that list is any kind of customer service?

If you have a problem, you will be out of luck. Go with godaddy or something that costs a few dollars more. I like godaddy because there is always someone you can call if you need help with anything, and they speak english.
